TWTW: He Goes Before You {Exodus 13:21-22}

Have you ever felt like you’re in a blind spot?

Like you’re just existing in the middle of what you’ve done and what’s to come? You just crossed a bridge but now you’re at crossroads and you don’t know the next step to take.

That’s how I’ve been feeling this month.

I’ve completed my final exams in university and now I’m in that phase where I’m not sure of my next step. Do I immediately get a 9-5 job before my convocation and youth service? Do I continue with my side job till I go for youth service? Should I focus on jewelry business for now? There’s just a lot of questions. I’ve settled on a plan already but then I wonder, is this the right step to take? I’m sure I’m not the only one that feels this way.

I prayed about it and God opened my eyes to a very comforting verse.

“The Lord went ahead of them. He guided them during the day with a pillar of cloud, and he provided light at night with a pillar of fire. This allowed them to travel by day or by night. And the Lord did not remove the pillar of cloud or pillar of fire from its place in front of the people.”
‭‭Exodus‬ ‭13‬:‭21‬-‭22‬ ‭NLT‬

I could relate with the Israelites in this chapter. They had been enslaved in Egypt for more than 400 years. They had gotten accustomed to the lifestyle they had there. They probably couldn’t envision a life outside what they had in Egypt, even though they were literally slaves.

Then God sends Moses to bring them out of Egypt to the Promised land. It must’ve been exciting, but strange. To be done with a phase and not be sure of what’s next.

Exodus 13:21-22 says, The Lord went ahead of them. As they traveled out of what they had grown comfortable with to the new place He had for them, He guided them day and night and He never left them.

Why do we worry about our future when the One who knows the end from the beginning says He causes all things to work together for the good of we that love Him? (Romans 8:28)

God goes ahead to light the way for us, down the path which leads to our promised future. Isn’t that so reassuring?

Whenever you feel stuck or lost or unsure, have faith in the One who knows your end. And don’t be afraid of making the wrong choice for His promises and purpose for you will be fulfilled regardless.

Remember there is absolutely nothing you could do that could separate you from His love (Romans 8:38) and God shows up for those He loves.

I hope you find some sort of comfort in that.
