I’ve always been an advocate for the female body and our health in general just cause it’s honestly not talked about enough.
A lot of the things I experience as I grow older are not taught to us in school. Most times I have ask AI or TIKTOK(!) to make sure what I’m going through is completely normal which I think is sad. Thank God for technology, imagine the time when they didn’t have that.
I mean I literally just learnt about decidual cast few weeks ago. That is why I’ve made it one of my life’s mission to create a space like this where it’s comfortable to speak on these things.
Today, I’ve got an amazing guest on the blog. She’s a certified doctor and a great friend who has always been there to answer my questions. I’ve asked her to give us general tips on all things “women’s health” and best believe she came through!
Introducing Dr. Eno!

My name is Dr. Enoabasi P David. I’m an Ex-student of Gregory University Uturu, passionate about public health, tech, and finance. I love traveling , exploring new music and trying out new dishes & food recipes. I’ve always been drawn to becoming a surgeon , there’s something about it that feels powerful and purposeful. But beyond the operating room, I’ve always wanted to help people and be a source of hope, even in the smallest ways.
As a Nigerian woman and a healthcare advocate, I’ve realized how important it is for us to take charge of our health (body, mind, and soul) . A lot of the things we face daily aren’t spoken about enough, so I’m passionate about creating awareness and sharing helpful information. Here are some essential women’s health tips I believe every Nigerian woman should know:
🍥 Make Regular Health Checkups a Habit
Too often, we wait until something is seriously wrong before seeing a doctor. They say “prevention is better than cure“. Please go for regular checkups (pap smears, breast exams, blood pressure check) and several others . It could save your life.
🍥 Understand Your Reproductive Health
Let’s normalize knowing what’s going on with our bodies. Learn about your menstrual cycle, birth control options, and safe sex practices. Irregular periods or intense cramps shouldn’t be brushed off. If you’re sexually active, please get regular STI screenings.
🍥 Eat Healthy meals
Our meals are delicious, but many are high in carbs and unhealthy oils. I try to balance mine, especially with lean protein (like fish or eggs), and healthy fats (like avocados and nuts). Also, cutting down on salt helps reduce the risk of high blood pressure (this is very important).
🍥 Keep your Body Moving
Exercise isn’t just for weight loss, it helps your heart, your mood, and your hormones. You don’t need a gym; daily walks or home workouts work wonders.
Try to be consistent, it really helps.
🍥 Let’s Talk About Mental Health
We’re often told to “be strong,” but it’s okay to not be okay. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, anxious, or down, please talk to someone. Therapy isn’t a luxury, it’s part of self-care.
🍥 Breast Awareness
We have to take breast health seriously. I do monthly self-checks and encourage others to do the same. If you notice any lump or change, don’t ignore it. Early detection saves lives.
🍥 Protect Yourself from Cervical Cancer
Cervical cancer is preventable. If you can, get the HPV vaccine, and don’t skip Pap smears. It’s a simple test that can make a big difference.
🍥 Pregnancy Should Be Safe, Not Scary
If you’re pregnant or planning to be, antenatal care is non-negotiable. It helps catch complications early. Eat well, rest, and take your vitamins , especially folic acid.
It’s your body, please treat it well.
🍥 Know the Signs of Fibroids and Hormonal Imbalance
Heavy bleeding, pelvic pain, or unexplained weight gain could be signs of fibroids or PCOS. These conditions are common among us and need medical attention.
Always consult a specialist if you notice any abnormality .
🍥 Hydration & Skincare Matter Too
With our hot climate, staying hydrated is very very important And yes, black women need sunscreen too! It helps protect against sunburn, premature aging, and skin cancer.
These are just some of the tips I try to live by and encourage other women to do the same. Our bodies deserve love, care, and proper attention.
Please love yourself 💜.
