PRIDE MONTH WITH BTS AND ARMYS

It’s June!

Two massive events happen in June; Pride Month which commemorates the ongoing pursuit of equal justice for the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer community alongside celebrating the accomplishments of LGBTQ individuals AND BTS’s anniversary/Festa.

What better way to celebrate than to look back at cute “pridefull” moments of BTS and ARMYs.

ARMYS PRIDE

On June 17 2017, during Pride Month, Armys of different sexual orientations and gender identities trended the hashtag “#LGBTQARMYSelcaDay” as a means of showing gratitude to BTS for their positive messages and encouragements through their music.

The hashtag proved the beautiful diversity of ARMY and that regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation, religion and ethnicity, ARMYs around the world are united by one thing— their love for BTS.

In 2018, an ARMY, Karess Bollanga went viral after she and her friends posed with a LGBT flag at BTS’s concerts in Paris.

She told BuzzFeed News, she came up with the idea while listening to “Stigma”, a solo song by Taehyung on the album Wings.

She said: “I was thinking about the stigma people had, about the fact that thanks to BTS, some of those injuries have been healed.

“I was also thinking about the fact that ARMY, as a worldwide family, has a big LGBT community, and that no matter if BTS is talking about them or not in their songs, they can feel touched and moved by them, because they can identify themselves through it.”

One of Bollanga’s friends, Ezra Anfoussi also said, “We could have chosen a different flag, but we wanted the LGBTQ+ because in a certain way, it has more significance since it’s difficult to be accepted in this world. This is a cause we want to defend and we want to give hope to them like BTS do to us. They are our Anpanman and one day, we will be someone’s Anpanman.”

GENDER FLUIDITY

In a 2014 interview with Japanese magazine Oricon Style, Suga described his ideal type.

I focus on personality and atmosphere. I don’t have an ideal type and it’s not limited to a girl.

— Suga

Suga also suggesting that the BT21 characters being gender fluid and the rest of the members immediately agreeing with him.

PRIDE COLORS IN BTS MVs

BTS FASHION

In 2019, Vans celebrated the LGTB+ Pride Month with ‘The Love Pack’ shoe collection and Suga was spotted wearing one of the shoes featured in the collection.

Jin and J-Hope have both worn designs by an Indian designer, Ashish Gupta who designs lgbtq pro fashion.

Jungkook stating that people should be allowed to wear whatever they like regardless of gender.

And they’re men of their words.

Lastly, RM’s 2019 Speech At The UN

“No matter who you are, where you’re from, your skin color, gender identity: speak yourself.”

The people in the LGBTQ+ community still face tons of hate and inhuman treatment everyday so having that reminder that there are people who support you, who say “Hey! I might not be you but I understand you and you are not alone”.

I think that’s one thing that keeps most of us going.

To my LGBTQ+ friends, I hope you celebrate yourself this month for who you are.

Thank you everyone for reading! I really hope you enjoyed reading this post as much as I enjoyed writing it. 🤍
