Oh my God oh my God OH MY GOD!
I made it this far in 2020, you’ve made it this far in 2020 despite a deadly pandemic, the Black Lives Matter protests, the End SARS protests, the fire outbreaks going on everywhere, despite all these crazy stuff going on, you’re here reading this!
OH MY GOD!
I can’t even explain how I feel right now cause it’s all too much but overall, I’m just grateful to God for you and I…
And this blog!
Tomorrow is the One Year anniversary of this blog!
Yeeeeeeeee! I cannot begin to say how grateful I am to you guys cause without you, honestly, without you I don’t think this blog would’ve lasted to this point. I love y’all so much and that is why I decided to give back to you guys by answering some of the questions you guys sent in concerning blogging. I tried to be as explanatory, honest and open as possible.
DAY 11: MY BLOGGING EXPERIENCE, TIPS AND ADVICE
1. Describe how you first got into blogging?
I first got into blogging on the 31st of December, 2019. I actually registered with WordPress in July but I had a lot on my plate then and I just wasn’t in the right space yet but then December came and everyone was yelling, “New Decade. Start something new blah blah blah” so I decided to give blogging a try and then I went ahead to write my first post.
I was actually kind of nervous at first, like I even decided that I wasn’t going to do it cause i was afraid that people will hate on it or my friends would make fun of me or no one would like it. But then I showed one of my friends a preview and she was like “You would be crazy not to publish it”. She got me all hyped up so I was like yasss I can do this! And I went ahead to publish my first post.
By the way, this was around like 8pm on my way to church for Crossover Service. It got like 150 views that night and then like 40 the next day. I was only expecting like 10 people so 😂😂😂
2. Can you tell me some of your strengths that really helped you in blogging?
I think one of my strengths is probably my humor. I don’t know if I’m a funny person but I think I am….I’m like 70% funny. So I try to put a lot of humor into each and every of my posts cause I think making someone smile or laugh is super important. Like I want people to click my link and be able to have a good time even if it’s just for 2 minutes.
3. How would you describe your blogging style?
I would say my blogging style is very versatile. I don’t even think there’s like a category for it. There probably is, I’ll google it after this. But yeah, I think it’s very versatile like I don’t have a specific niche and I think that is what has like kept me going because I’m a very fickle person so I get disinterested in a lot of things super quickly whether it’s like movies, people, books, even social media etc. plus I’m not super consistent.
So I think the reason this kept going is because I wasn’t doing just one particular thing, like this week I’m talking about food, the next week we’re talking models like every week is something new so that keeps me motivated all of the time.
4. What type of networking do you think is better to enhance your traffic to your blog?
I think WordPress as a network on it’s own, has helped a lot in building traffic on my site by like recommending my blog on various feeds. Another thing that works for me is WhatsApp cause sharing with your friends and them sharing to theirs and the sharing keeps going on and on, that brings traffic as well. I think it mostly depends on the way you put it out.
5. What do you think is the best service a blogger can provide to his readers?
I think the best service would be a good read. No one wants to come and read just anyhow stuff so I think making sure that the readers have a good time on your site is the best service a blogger could give.
6. What is your ideal working environment?
I won’t say I have “an ideal” working environment. I guess, a really calm and semi breezy place. It could be anywhere, just calm and breezy.
7. How do you manage time to run your blog efficiently?
Hmmmm I don’t know if I can answer this question like to my best ability because most of this year was spent at home cause of Corona so I kind of had enough time in my hands to blog but I don’t know how it’s going to be like when school resumes but I have a planned schedule for my blog that gives me time to do other stuff.
Firstly, I don’t have specific days of blogging or a specific time. When I come up with an idea, I write it in my Notes app till when I’m like less busy then I can really ponder on it. Then the next day, I could use an hour to come up with the content and everything I’ll need. Then the next day, I can start writing and if I get tired or busy, I’ll leave the editing for another day…. Sparing just an hour a day to blog is actually a good way to manage time. You don’t have to do everything all at once or put too much load on your head.
8. How do you want to improve yourself and your blog in the next year?
For myself, I don’t know, probably be more open to, read more, try to work on my fickleness 😂😂
For my blog, I actually have some ideas I’m planning on implementing next year. Better, deeper segments. You’ll see it when you see it😌
9. What was your greatest mistake this past year and how did you learn from it?
My greatest mistake was letting the views get to my head. So I started with my first post hitting like 200 views so when I started making other consecutive posts, the views weren’t as high as the first time so I let it get to my head. Then I started thinking too much about it and started posting too many posts, too many times, like 4 times in a week and the more I did that the more the views dropped cause people were getting tired.
This was around April by the way so I stopped posting for a while and then this podcast that I watch, “Impaulsive”. They had a guy named Charlie Rocket on and he spoke about starting small and not letting what you love overwhelm you and then Mike Majlak, one of the hosts said something that will stick with me for a long time. He said, “Never judge your value by your views but by your influence”.
A few days later, 3 people dmed me on Instagram asking why I hadn’t been posting in a while and if I was okay and I felt so touched. So I decided that I wasn’t going to care about the views anymore. Even if it was going be just these 3 people viewing it, I would still do it with my all of my heart and hoping that I make them smile. And now, look how far we’ve come now now now now *in Jason Derulo’s voice*
10. Tell me about your proudest achievement on the blog?
My proudest achievement would be going a year without giving up cause trust me, it hasn’t been easy.
11. What was the most challenging moment in your blogging journey so far?
I don’t think there’s one particular moment I found challenging. There were lots of times I was tired or not in the mood or just not wanting to do anything but I had to so I could meet up with the day I promised to publish. Those times were challenging.
12. Where would you like to be in blogging five years from now?
I would like to have made a difference in the blogging space especially with the people my age and that’s why I’m big on Q/As with my friends on certain topics cause I feel like there are so many things to be discussed at the point where we are right now and I’m hoping I’m able to address that in my blog and just generally hoping my blog makes a difference.
13. How do you motivate yourself to keep your blog up and running?
Like I said earlier, I think the fact that I’m not focusing on one particular niche, like I’m talking about literally everything on the blog. So coming up with different ideas, reading up on them, selecting the people for Q/As, those stuff keep me motivated.
14. What is the biggest difference in your life post-blogging?
I would say my mental health. Starting this blog, I wasn’t in the best place at all but blogging has helped me to want to be better so I could make better posts for you guys all the time cause I believe your mental health reflects on your words or music or art, literally whatever you do. So I worked on it and I can definitely say that right now, I’m in a good place. You can probably tell from my posts.
15. What do you think is the best social media strategy for getting most visitors to a blog?
Honestly, I’m not really a social media guru. I literally joined Snapchat, Instagram and Twitter last year, TikTok literally this month, so I’m not really the best to ask on anything social media. Infact, if you have any tips you can give me to help me network better than PLEASE DM ME! I PLEAD WITH YOU!
16. Would you encourage other people to make their own blog?
YESSSSSS of course! There’s enough space for everyone in the WWW. If you think you have the knack for it, then please go ahead. I would honestly love to read and follow more blogs so if you have a blog, please put your link down in my comments section and if you’re starting one, when you do, also put the link in my comment section. Thank youuuuu!
So those were all of the questions, I think I answered them nicely, like a good writer that I am. Thank you very muchhhhhh!
